Fourth single/chapter from iamamiwhoami's audiovisual album BLUE.
Music video observations[]
The video begins with drops of water dripping into a pool. Jonna Lee holds a melting ice cube in her hand, and it is revealed that she is standing in the sea. She is wearing a white leotard, hair up in a braid, and a melted crown on her head. Dancing in the water, and forming shapes in the sea, she continues walking forward, and a shot of glass bottles floating in the water is shown. She then folds a piece of paper containing a lyric sheet, and slots it into a glass bottle, corking it. She then throws it into the distance, allowing it to freely float. Shots of multiple bottles are shown with paper inside. The final shot shows a bottle washing up on shore, with what appears to be grid paper inside it.
Notes[]
- The phrase "To whom it may concern." makes an appearance at the beginning of the video. This is the seventh occurrence on video overall.
- The video directly contrasts vista, a progression from ice to water. Her surroundings have thawed out, shifting from icy mountaintops to the watery ocean. Parallels between both videos such as a piece of ice in her hand and her crown have melted away. This is reinforced by the bridge between the two songs in the BLUE island edition being titled melter.
Trivia[]
- The last 2 shots read 'iamamiwhoami; BLUE', and a Pre-order notice.
- The message in the glass bottle are the lyrics to shadowshow, as evident in the close-up shot of a reversed "it's how it goes" written on the page. Other suggestions prove that chasing kites could also be shown whilst Jonna curls up a sheet of paper during one scene. However, the final piece of paper (on the bank, inside a bottle) appears to be a blank piece of graph paper.
- The single was made available as an instant download by pre-ordering the album through iTunes.
- The music video was filmed in Aruba, as confirmed by Lee herself on THE ISLAND interview.
