"the last dancer" is a 2014 song by iamamiwhoami, the ninth single and chapter from the audiovisual album BLUE.
Video[]
The video continues where ripple ended for Jonna Lee, in a white boat under thick fog. We then see the same nature shots that were shown at the end of fountain. She is then seen rowing the boat into a wooded area, and two faceless figures are looking her way from afar. Lee is now wearing a thicker plastic outfit, revealed to be a dress later on in the the video.
Lee arrives in a forest which is filled with listlessly walking faceless figures, with fireflies in jars hung onto some of the trees. Later on, another scene involves Lee, plastic formal dress revealed, in a brighter spot in the forest. There is a wooden chair and a mirror nearby. She caresses the chair as she sings before sitting down on it, rocking back and forth.
We then now see Lee dancing alone in the forest, twirling her dress, ecstatic in her movements. This is intercut with her back where the chair and the mirror are located. She finally inspects the mirror and sees a reflection of herself as a faceless figure. She smashes the mirror into pieces. The final few shots entail Lee back in the forest. She has stopped dancing. The area is foggier.
She closes her eyes and stands there as the faceless figures slowly come closer to her.
Notes[]
- The phrase "To whom it may concern." makes an appearance at the beginning of the video. This is the twelfth occurrence on video overall.
- The steering wheel from the boat in fountain is quickly seen from 0:16-0:18.
- A glass bottle with a message inside is seen in the water as she rows into the forest from 0:37-0:39, a reference to tap your glass and thin.
- Lee's movements as she dances alone in the forest are reminiscent of those in the n portion of IN CONCERT, in which she waltzed with ShootUpTheStation.
- Her reflection in the mirror being that of a faceless figure's echoes a similar occurrence in blue blue, but now with a different outcome.
- At the end, she stands calmly waiting with her eyes closed as the faceless figures approach, similar to the ending of drops from the kin series.
Trivia[]
- In an interview, Lee spoke that the song and video was "about the return to the forest, our home, and our past."
- The last 2 shots read 'iamamiwhoami; BLUE', and towhomitmayconcern.cc, the label's website.
- This is the second video to be released after November 10, 2014, BLUE's release date.

Lyrics[]
One lines was released on BULLETT's 2011 exclusive interview:
- This is home. This is wealth. I can watch from a distance.
the life has gone from this room
there is no future for me
there was dancing and the mood
shifted from tender to a lifeless beat
needless happy as in june
when this battle stained the white with bleeding
i will not be equal to
the fool who cherishes her own misdeed
look at the stars in the winter sky
everything will bleed tonight
what a beautiful day to die
the last i saw of myself
was a shadow in the water stream
in the life that i left
to walk into the land of defeat
now this is home, this is wealth
awakening to the sound of the sea
where i can watch from a distance
and rule my land of misery
look at the stars in the winter sky
everything will bleed tonight
what a beautiful day to die
feel the air grow cold and dry
everything will be just fine
what a beautiful day to die
the shadow from the former
over my shoulder, waiting to take me home
i heard its every call
i know what it wants
i’m willing to leave for home
the shadow from the former
over my shoulder, waiting to take me home
i heard its every call
i know what it wants
i’m willing to leave for home
