iamamiwhoami

Sixth single/chapter from iamamiwhoami's audiovisual album BLUE.

Music video observations[]

The video opens with the silhouettes of windswept palm trees during sunrise. A group of faceless figures are gathered on the shore, waiting for more bottled notes to arrive. We cut to scenes of various faceless figures retrieving and holding bottled messages as they come in on the tide. The scene moves to a fire on the beach. The figures are revealed to be collecting the bottles in attempts to decipher the lyric sheets within, burning them over the flames soon after. They then hold the emptied bottles towards the sky, inspecting them. Jonna Lee appears, perched on a rock surrounded by emptied bottles, wearing a white leotard and a fur cape with paper ruffles. As waves crash against the rocks, Lee smashes several bottles to pieces. The faceless figures begin to run: across the beach, a meadow, and along a dirt path.

Another version of Lee appears, this time walking along the beach, her hair windswept and her body draped in the tangled remains of the white outfit from blue blue. Two faceless figures plunge into the ocean and try to swim farther from shore, only to drown. Their lifeless bodies float on the waves, and Lee continues walking along the beach while shielding her eyes from the sun. As the sun sets, she pushes her toes into the sand. The camera pans over an aerial view of the rocky coastline. A hand slips beneath the surface of water, and the video ends.

Lyrics[]

our finds beneath the cloak of night
has our minds in control
we guard them with our weary eyes
and we watch them grow
when the time is right
and we’re ready to begin
at first tide, your patience's wearing thin

we scatter in the night
like scarlet red on winter white
melting into thin

the kind of which i came to be
after being swallowed whole
by offering a piece of me
to any given fool

we scatter in the night
like innocent sheets of white
spreading by the wind

she goes high
leave no sound
she goes high
leave no sound

they turn to us
they ask us why
who say they are to trust
what we define

they turn to us (you know they, you know they, you know they won't)
they ask us why
who say they are to trust
what we define

who say? (you know they, you know they, you know they won't)
who say?
who say? (you know they, you know they, you know they won't)
she goes high (you know they, you know they, you know they won't)
leave no sound
